Rosalyn W. Berne directs the Center for Ethics and Society (CEES) at the National Academy of Engineering. As a scholar, Rosalyn has published two academic books, numerous papers and journal articles. A Career Award from the National Science Foundation supported her work in the ethics of nanotechnology development, and the writing of a science fiction novel drawn from her studies of emerging and converging technologies. She has also authored two books in the body-mind-spirit genre, non-fictional accounts of her work with horses. Rosalyn earned a PhD in Religious Studies with a focus on Bioethics, and an MA degree in Rhetoric & Communication Studies, both from the University of Virginia. As Associate Professor in the department of Engineering and Society at the University of Virginia, she teaches courses in "Engineering Ethics", "Responsible Conduct of Research", and "The Social and Ethical Implications of the Engineering Grand Challenges."
