National Town Meeting on Research Misconduct

The Proposed Federal Policy and Definition of Research Misconduct was the topic of a daylong discussion among government and university officials, researchers, and journalists hosted by the National Academies. The event was held at the National Academy of Sciences building at 2100 C St., N.W., in Washington, D.C., from 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. EST Wednesday, Nov. 17.

Members of the research community were invited to participate by listening to a live audio Webcast of the event, and submitting questions to the presenters using an e-mail form, both accessible from the National Academies home page, on the Web at http://national-academies.org. The purpose of the meeting was to provide an opportunity for participants to discuss the proposed definition and policy before the end of a public comment period set up by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). Remarks made during the meeting were not to be submitted to OSTP. Participants were able to provide official comment to the government on this issue by contacting Sybil Francis, Office of Science and Technology Policy, Executive Office of the President, Washington, DC 20502. In order to listen to audio files from the Town Meeting, participants needed to use RealPlayer software. More information about the meeting policy development is available on at OSTP website's archive on the policy.
