To ensure that all users, including those with disabilities, are able to access and use the resources on the Online Ethics Center we are striving to ensure the site complies with best practices and standards defined by Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act as well as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 prepared by the World Wide Web Consortium Web Accessibility Initiative (W3C WAI).
The WCAG 2.0 guidelines have three levels of accessibility (A, AA and AAA). The Online Ethics Center endeavors to meet these guidelines at Level AA. We are working hard to achieve Level AA accessibility, but we realize that many areas still need improvement. The following information explains what we are doing now to make that happen.
While there are a number of images and non-text items on the Online Ethics Center, these items are primarily decorative. To avoid unnecessary graphics please use the low-graphics alternative site that is designed to work well with screen readers and other assistive technologies.
While the majority of the content on the Online Ethics Center is purely text-based, a number of images and videos have been added over the past ten years, and in some cases these items may not comply with accessibility standards. Staff members are working to identify all non-text content on the site and edit or remove these materials as necessary to ensure the highest possible level of accessibility. This process takes time so please let us know if you experience difficulty accessing any of the materials on the site. All new materials added to the OEC will be checked against the WCAG Guidelines.
