The CEES Ethics column
The Center for Engineering, Ethics, and Society has launched the CEES Ethics Column to highlight efforts being undertaken by engineers around the world in the realm of “engineering ethics.”
The first article features the work of NAE member Zdenek Bazant concerning open access to technical information in cases of structural failure. Dr. Bazant takes the stance that all such data should be open and available when this information could lead to significant advancements in the profession, but legal proceedings may hamper or prevent open access. Dr. Bazant has taken the issue up with the Civil Engineering Section of the NAE, which is currently debating the wording of a statement on this issue.
This column has a moderated comments feature for visitors to share their input.
