Joint Advisory Group (JAG) on Becoming the Online Resource Center for Ethics Education in Engineering and Science

Over a 5 year period, this ad hoc committee provides high-level oversight of the expansion of the NAE Online Ethics Center as it becomes the go-to online source for resources on ethics and ethics education in science and engineering. The committee ensures engagement of the National Academy of Sciences, Institute of Medicine, and National Research Council.

At least once a year, the JAG provides a brief written evaluation of the project, including opportunities to improve. In doing so, it considers and provides guidance on a number of items including:

  • Project structure and processes
  • Evaluation plans
  • Participation and deliberation among the intended audiences and underserved populations
  • Plans for vetting materials added to the site
  • Areas and topics in need of resources
  • Promotion of the project and providing or encouraging financial and other needed support
  • Revision of the site’s look and branding, and development of new applications and functionalities.

Committee members also assist the project’s content editorial boards throughout the five year period. In years four and five, the committee will produce a sustainability plan for the site and present it to the NAS, NAE, and IOM presidents.
